I knew a young teenage boy called Lindsay Patterson when I had the first two girls and did not plan any more children. But I did think the name Lindsay went well with our surname. I had never heard of it as a girls’ name.
To me the name of my second daughter, Haidee, is the best name for a girl. And Lindsay is (would be) the best name for a boy. And Lindsay for a boy is/ would be even better than Haidee is for a girl.
When Lindsay was a little boy, I looked up the meaning of his name. It was: island in the middle of the sea! I did not think much of it as a meaning of a name. The names which came to mind meant: strong, brave, lionhearted. Or beloved. Loved of God. But when I told him, he quickly made sense of it. ‘Well, I am a bit stranded, aren’t I ?’
He has three sisters!
