First things first. If you’re going to do a show based on your book, you’ve got to dress in something fabulous and sums up your aesthetic. The thing is, my natural dressage is lazy. I like to refer to it as shambolic chic. I often play other characters, so one has a costume and therefore I don’t have to worry about showing my natural persona. I have many choice sartorial pieces; from waistcoats, fedoras and earrings. But I don’t know what to wear, what would sum up the book?

Here are some examples of past costumes that perhaps could be the look I could recreate for Bastardography: The Play
A List of Potentials
I’m fascinated by the clothes of Leigh Bowary, Pre-Raphaelite Dandies and Maggie Thatcher – but where is one going to knock something up of that ilk in two weeks? So I am going to throw out a list of ideas, if anything tickles your fancy let me know:
- A dress made from undelivered (stolen) Conservative Candidate Leaflets
- Nude
- Jesus Christ Costume (White/Renaissance)
- Colonel Gaddafi
- A onesie
- Fetish Freak outfit (Tom of Finlandesque)
- A costume made from Anti-Depressant packets.
- The Sixth Doctor Cosplay
- Quentin Crisp-ish
- Funeral Suit
- The Pope
- Starbucks Barista
- Egg
- Madonna circa 1998
I want to wear something comfortable, yet stylish, says something, is mesmeric; I think it’ll be something dressy definitely. I think I’ll just have to splurge in a charity shop or something. Perhaps a corset. I’ve never worn a corset, has anyone reading this ever worn one?
